Barry Ancelet "Jean-le-Chasseur et ses chiens" at Bayou State Book Talks

Join authors Barry Ancelet and Denise Gallagher for a lively discussion of their book, Jean-le-Chasseur et ses Chiens, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, beginning at 6:30pm at the Downtown Lafayette Public Library.

About the Authors:
Barry Jean Ancelet is a writer, storyteller, singer, and professor emeritus of Francophone studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Ancelet is very interested in the structure of words and ideas. He writes poems, plays, songs, and stories, all informed by the spoken French of Louisiana.

UL Press Children's Book Launch Celebration

Join the UL Press in celebrating the release of its two latest works of children's literature, Madame Grand Doigt by Yvette Landry with illustration by Cullen Bernard and Jean-le-Chasseur et ses chiens by Barry Ancelet with illustration by Denise Gallagher, Wednesday, September 28 from 6-8 pm at Pop's Poboys (740 Jefferson St. Lafayette).

Books will be available for purchase--and autographing by the authors and illustrators--and light refreshments will be served.

Yvette Landry's "Madame Grand Doigt" at Bayou State Book Talks

Join Yvette Landry, author of "Madame Grand Doigt," for a reading and discussion of her new book as the first of this year's Bayou State Book Talks.

Landry is a Grammy-nominated, award-winning vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and noted children's author, whose first book, "The Ghost Tree" (2012), received a nomination for Louisiana's "Young Readers' Choice Award" and represented Louisiana at the National Book Fair in Washington, D.C.

ACCF House Concert Hosted at Avery Island

UL Lafayette's Center for Louisiana Studies is hosting an intimate house concert at Avery Island with renowned local musicians David Greely (founding fiddler of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, currently performing solo and in GreelySavoyDuo and GumboJet) and Blake Miller (founding member of Pine Leaf Boys, current member of the Revelers and Lafayette Rhythm Devils) on Friday, May 6, beginning at 7pm.

Guilbeau Awards for Research in UL Lafayette Collections

To promote the use of collections housed at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Department of History and Geography is pleased to announce the Jamie Guilbeau and Thelma Guilbeau UL Lafayette Research Fellowship in the amount of $500 for a researcher who IS a faculty member, staff member, or graduate student at the University, and the Jamie Guilbeau and Thelma Guilbeau UL Lafayette Research Grant in the amount of $2,000 for a researcher who is NOT a faculty member, staff member, or graduate student at the University.

Poet Darrell Bourque to Receive James William Rivers Prize in Louisiana Studies

The Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will host an award ceremony and reception from 2-3 pm, on Monday, April 18, in honor of poet Darrell Bourque, the recipient of the 2016 James William Rivers Prize in Louisiana Studies.  The event will take place at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center. 

The prize selection committee specifically cited Bourque's "longstanding commitment to and leadership in the realm of preserving and expanding our understanding of Louisiana through poetry.

LA Femme/Women of Louisiana: A Symposium

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Center for Louisiana Studies observes Women’s History Month with LA Femme / Women of Louisiana: A Symposium on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Paul and LuLu Hilliard University Art Museum’s A. Hays Town Building.  The free day-long symposium­­ culminates with an evening book launch of Louisiana Women: Their Lives and Times, Volume Two, co-edited by Dr. Mary Farmer Kaiser, Dean of the Graduate School.
