TRANSNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROJECT BETWEEN THE CENTER FOR LOUISIANA STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA AT LAFAYETTE AND THE INSTITUTE OF ACADIAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONCTON
This intercultural exchange is organized by the Center for Louisiana Studies of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Institute of Acadian Studies of the Université de Moncton in the spring/summer 2023 session.
Thanks to the generosity of a Louisiana donor family, this program aims to cultivate and promote the cultural and historical ties between French-speaking Louisiana and Acadia. It also aims to offer students from UL Lafayette and the Université de Moncton a unique and enriching research and creative experience.
The program aims to pair two people from these two institutions for social/scholarly/linguistic support. The selected individuals will first spend time in Moncton, where they will develop (in consultation with university staff) an individual project that intersects archival research and creation to historicize and cross-reference the different influences and traditions of Acadia and Louisiana. These individuals will benefit from a workspace provided by the Institute of Acadian Studies. In the second month, workspace will be provided at the Center for Louisiana Studies.
At the end of the two-month period, the pair will produce:
1) either separate or collaborative public presentations, in Lafayette and in Moncton, respectively
2) separate or collaborative 15-minute audio recording available on the websites of both universities;
The pair will spend a minimum of two weeks in Moncton, New Brunswick and then two weeks in Lafayette, Louisiana. A private Louisiana foundation is funding the airfare and providing a stipend of $800 US for each participant, to be used for incidental living expenses during the two-month period. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Université de Moncton will provide accommodations and a weekday meal plan for the traveler.
